With white supremacy on the rise the UK public are in the main responding superbly. Of course there will always be the minority in which hate and ignorance play a dominant part in their lives but until they learn to love and understand cruelty and how it impacts on others they will always be in pain.

However, the focus should be on how can we improve things. How can we help others to overcome the bigots?

Lee Rigby’s mum Lynn has been at the forefront of the campaign to support Black Lives Matter and challenge those who are using her son’s name in vain. She is embarrassed and sickened that people are using her son’s name at this time to detract from the racist violence experienced in such graphic scenes in the US but also in many places across the world including the UK.

Now is the time to say a big ‘NO’ to the haters whether in uniforms or not.

As a response Stand Up to Racism in Dorset has organised three protests across the weekend.

‘Stand Up to Racism Dorset remembers George Floyd. We stand with all those opposing racism in the US, here in the UK – and worldwide. Join local protests this weekend, 6-7 June.’

The venues are:

Dorchester: Saturday 6 June, 12 midday, Town Pump, top of South Street.

Weymouth: Sunday 7 June, 11am, Weymouth Beach.

Bournemouth: Saturday 6 June, 12 midday, the Pier.

Please bring placards, banners.

All events will conform with social distancing and face covering: let’s stay safe.
