call for public feedback on Transforming Travel in Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole (BCP) closes this Friday, 18th December.

BCP Council has been allocated £100m of Government funding from the Transforming Cities Fund for major upgrades to sustainable local transport options (cycling, walking, and buses) on key arterial routes. The Transforming Travel programme funding is conditional on the Council tapping the local knowledge of individual residents, on what exactly they need where they are to make sustainable transport options truly viable, attractive and safe.

Six arterial routes have been identified (pictured below), but much of the challenge for the Council will be in safe end-to-end joining-up of places where people work, rest and play.

The questions BCP Council seeks answers to include, but are not limited to:

  • What do you think of these routes?
  • Are there sections along any of the routes that are particularly good for walking and cycling?
  • Does this encourage you to travel more sustainably?
  • How can we encourage greener methods of transport?
  • Would you actively use these new cycle and walking routes?

Alasdair Keddie, Co-Chair of BCP Green Party, said: “We want to help BCP Council crowdsource a truly community vision of active transport. That means thinking about how the vision links our green spaces, leisure areas, transport hubs, residential areas, and major employment centres alongside the proposed arterial routes, while delivering real reductions to air pollution, noise and congestion.

“We strongly encourage all residents with an interest to take their chance this week to influence how this major investment scheme develops.”

To contribute your views and requests, you can register on the feedback platform and then just ‘drop a pin’ with your short comment.

Residents are also being asked to complete a 5-minute survey on their current local travel patterns.
