Officers investigating reports of public disorder in Weymouth are issuing an image of a man they would like to speak to.

At around 7.45pm on Sunday 4 April 2021 Dorset Police received a report of a fight involving a group of people taking place in the area of Custom House Quay.

Officers attended and a group of four men aged in their 20s reported they had been assaulted by a larger group.

The victims were all Brazilian nationals living locally and it was reported that they were subjected to abusive comments in relation to their nationality. Two of the men sustained injuries that were not believed to be serious and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Following enquiries, an 18-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested on suspicion of racially or religiously aggravated wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm. A further three men – a 22-year-old from Bournemouth and two men aged 20 and 23 from the Dorchester area – were arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray. All four have been released under investigation as officers continue to make enquiries.

Police Constable Ed Messinger, of Dorset Police, said: “We are continuing to investigate this matter and I am releasing an image of a further individual we would like to speak to as part of our enquiries.

“I would urge anyone with information as to his identity to please contact us.

“I would also like to hear from any witnesses to the incident, including anybody who has filmed it on their mobile phone, who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.”
