Officers investigating an attempted robbery in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
The incident happened at 9.59am on Friday 21 May 2021 at the junction of St. Mary Street and St. Thomas Street, opposite the King’s Statue.
The victim had been to Gladstones jewellers and after leaving the store and walking around the corner a man grabbed a box the victim was holding, forcing it from his hand, and made off down Westham Road, turning right into Gloucester Street.
Fortunately, the victim – a man in his 50s – had not returned the item, a Rolex watch, to the box and therefore this was not stolen.
The offender is described as white and in his 20s. He was wearing a green hooded top and tracksuit bottoms.
Detective Sergeant Simon Austin, of Weymouth CID, said: “We are making a number of enquiries, including looking at CCTV footage, to identify the man responsible.
“I am appealing for any witnesses to the incident or anyone who saw the man running away from the scene to please contact us.
“Also, I am keen to hear from anyone who may have captured relevant dashcam footage that could assist my investigation.”
