POPULAR events have been postponed in a bid to prevent crowds gathering after the Government delayed the lifting of restrictions during an announcement on Monday (14 June).
In line with current restrictions, BCP Council has called off Folk on the Quay – due to take place on 26 June at Poole – in an effort to prevent further infection rates of Covid-19. Instead musicians and performers will be offered the opportunity to appear as part of the Festival Coast Live! entertainment on stage at Poole Quay, and throughout the summer season. Further details will be announced soon.
Harry Paye Day, due to take place on 3 July, and Poole Goes Vintage, due to take place on 11 July, have both been postponed. It is hoped these events will take place later this summer once restrictions allow.
Africa comes to Bournemouth, due to take place on 26 June, has also been postponed until later in the summer.
Events set to go ahead – in line with Government event guidelines – include Quay For My Car (every Friday from 2 July – 27 August), the CityFibre Poole Quay Summer Fireworks (every Thursday from 22 July – 26 August) and the Poole Seafood Festival (25-26 September).
Cllr Beverley Dunlop, Lead Member for Cultural Events and Bournemouth Regeneration, said: “It is with regret that we have had to postpone these hugely popular events after the Prime Minister’s announcement on Monday that current restrictions will remain in place for another four weeks.
“It is because these events are so popular with residents and visitors, normally attracting large crowds, that we have taken the decision to put these events back in line with the Government guidelines for outdoor events.
“Every effort is being made by all those involved to reschedule the events affected so that outdoor entertainment can be enjoyed by all when it is safe to do so. We will inform everyone at the earliest opportunity of new dates once we have secured them. We thank everyone for their patience and remind everyone to please comply with all the current Covid-19 guidelines.”
