Detectives investigating the alleged assault of two police officers in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to come forward.
At around 6.30pm on Wednesday 7 July 2021 officers responded to a report from a member of the public of a suspected drug deal taking place on Rodwell Road.
A man was subsequently detained for a search in Garibaldi Row, off Chickerell Road. The man reportedly became violent and was involved in a struggle with the two officers who were attempting to detain him.
One officer sustained cuts to his arm and leg and another suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Two packages containing a number of wraps of suspected class A drugs were reportedly located at the scene of the struggle.
A 25-year-old Weymouth man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, obstructing a police constable in the execution of their duty and possession of a class A drug with intent to supply. He is assisting officers with their enquiries.
Detective Constable Jeremy Cuff, of Weymouth police, said: “We are carrying out an investigation into this incident and I would appeal for anyone who witnessed what happened to please come forward.
“I understand there were a number of people in the area, some of whom may have filmed the incident on their mobile phones. I would ask that anyone with relevant footage please contacts us.”
