Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward following a fail-to-stop serious injury road traffic collision near Sherborne.

Dorset Police was called at 12.44pm on Thursday 12 August 2021 to a report of a collision involving a car that was towing a caravan and a cyclist on the A352 near Longburton between the junctions with Bradford Lane and Seven Ash Common Road.

The cyclist – a man aged in his 60s from Somerset – sustained serious injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital for treatment. His condition is described as life-threatening.

It is reported that the vehicle – possibly a dark-coloured SUV – towing the caravan failed to stop at the scene.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident and treat the injured cyclist.

Police Sergeant Mark Scammell, of the traffic unit, said: “We are carrying out enquiries into this collision and I would appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information to please contact us.

“I am particularly keen to hear from any motorists who were travelling along the A352 around the relevant timeframe and may have captured anything on dashcam footage to assist my investigation.

“I would also ask the motorist involved or anyone with information about their identity to please get in touch so we can take an account from them.

“Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience while the road closure was in place. This was absolutely necessary to allow the emergency services to carry out a thorough investigation in a safe manner.”
