Detectives investigating a serious assault in Gillingham are issuing CCTV images of the suspects.

Between 11.30pm on Friday 8 October and 12.30am on Saturday 9 October 2021 a serious assault occurred in an alleyway near to the Red Lion pub on the High Street.

It is reported that around 10 men and women were involved in the assault on two men. The suspects are described being aged between 18 and 21 years old.

One of the victims – a man aged in his 30s and from Bristol – sustained two spinal fractures and a serious injury to his face. His friend, also from Bristol, sustained minor injuries.

Detective Constable Claire Lloyd, of Weymouth CID, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on two men who were simply enjoying an evening out in Gillingham. This attack seems to have come without any provocation resulting in both victims receiving various injuries, but most concerning was one victim received two breaks to the spine and a serious cut to the forehead.

“I am releasing CCTV images of the suspects and I would urge anyone who knows their identity to please contact Dorset Police. While I appreciate the images are not overly clear, it may be that someone can identify them from the clothing they are wearing.

“As part of my enquiries I have established that two men walked past the incident and I would ask these individuals to please make contact with me as you might have important information that could assist my investigation.”
