I saw Ian Duncan Smith at a church fete one afternoon in his constituency. He was wearing a suit & a straw boater. Nobody talked to or acknowledged him – I felt really sorry for the young guy who had to make small talk. He looked elitist, out of place, ridiculous

My MP, Iain Stewart (C, MK South), ran a “community engagement” event in the local Asda. I asked him how the Irish border would work after Brexit. He ended up shouting at me and calling me names in front of other shoppers

Being offered a front row seat originally reserved for David Blunkett at an event for which he’d had to send his apologies. Getting up at the end & realising the bottom half of my long flowing skirt was soaking wet because it had been resting in David’s guide-dog’s water bowl…

My own example is attending an event at a Dorset college in which Richard Drax MP was the guest. He addressed a room full of students for about 45 minutes. I sat in with my students.
During that blood boiling three quarters of an hour the said Mr Drax insulted the students, females and the working class.
He began by stating that that same morning he had been a guest at a local fee paying school and told the blazered and silent students that he expected a much harder time when he attended his afternoon engagement at said college.
Then he went on to to state that young women should not be wasting their time with A levels but should be working at local care homes. A mature student put up her hand and told him that she was a student mum and that she was aiming to study medicine. His deep gammon blush was enough for us all to expect radiation poisoning later in life.
I turned round to my students and said ‘what a twat!’. I then noticed his agent looking straight at me. To be fair she looked lobotomised so I was not that concerned.
At the end he told the students to help themselves to the Tory literature that he had brought with him. I left too quickly to see if any other lobotomies took any. He is still Dorset South MP ten years later so the mindless morons are plentiful in this part of the world.
