Osmington History, a local heritage charity has produced an online history tour of the village with the help of Students from Budmouth Academy.
In the Summer term, three Year 10 students from the College took part in a week-long work experience project, where they were asked to research and produce a village tour.
Director of Research, Lucy Wyman explained:
“We asked the students to create a village tour for Osmington History by taking digital photos of specified landmarks in Osmington village and creating a page on our website listing them by number with a little description and a photo of each one.
The project involved created a map, a route, researching historical facts, taking photographs and updating content on the website. It also created a QR code that can be used around the village on notice boards or campsites so that people visiting the area can access it for free”.
Budmouth Academy teacher Mr Miles and Careers Guidance Co-ordinator Mrs Oetegenn helped arrange the work experience placement for Marco Demontis, Jack Akin and Reece Lister to work with the local charity.
The trustees and the Patrons of the Charity have been delighted with the results and so happy that the students have taken such an interest in the project.
“They were asking us questions about residents who have long since passed, and it was so lovely to hear that they had learnt so much about them and their lives. They brough valuable skills with them too, especially with their technology knowledge. The students are a real credit to themselves and the Academy, and we were thrilled to have their help”.
If people would like to try the tour it can be downloaded by using the QR code or by visiting the website link
