- Gallery by the Lakes, at Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorset, has announced its final event for 2022 – an exhibition and series of workshops celebrating the ingenuity, creativity, and diversity of contemporary printmaking.
Look Up! A Journey Through Print Land, which opens on November 5, will showcase pieces from the Citizens of Print Land, a collective of nine artists from the South-West, who share a love of traditional printmaking techniques including Wood Engraving, Linocut and Screenprint, and use these to create vibrant images that celebrate the beauty of our landscape, both in the country and the city.
Madeleine Bertorelli, manager of Gallery by the Lakes, explains the title of the exhibition:
“Imagine a place without smartphones and Zoom calls. A place where your to-do list consists only of the instruction to slow down, and to LOOK UP.
“With an emphasis on exploration, this exhibition showcases the Citizens of Print Lands’ collective sense of curiosity and experimentation within their respective practices. Alongside work on paper will be a number of ‘sculptural interventions’; printmaking that has outgrown its usual two-dimensional format and literally leaps from the page, blurring the boundary between print and sculpture. Prepare to have your eyes bathed in colours, textures, and pattern!”
Throughout the exhibition, members of the Citizens of Print Land group will also present a series of workshops and events inviting gallery visitors to try some of the printmaking processes, and experience for themselves the joys of printmaking.
Adds Madeleine:
“There is nothing more inspiring than an artist sharing with you their passion and their process, so we are looking forward to hosting this series of artist-led workshops where participants will be able to experiment and enjoy seeing what they have created; one of the pleasures of printmaking is the immediacy it offers.
“We will be showcasing work by established and exciting artists: Paul Cleden, Jane Chapman, Rebecca Dury, Rebecca Guyett, Robin Mackenzie, Colin Moore, Jason Pizzey, Lisa Takahashi and Noah Warnes.
“The workshops will not only bring this vibrant exhibition to life but allow us to end a busy year for Gallery by the Lakes on a high.”
Look Up! A Journey Through Print Land opens on November 5 and continues until December 23.
