A recently appointed Trustee of a Housing Charity in Bridport has resigned after less than three months in post.

The shock departure means the Daniel Taylor Almshouse Trust (now called Dantay and now a Charity rather than a Trust) is, once again, ‘inquorate’ meaning it cannot properly operate.

In the last 10 months Trustees have twice resigned en masse, leaving tenants fearful for the future of their homes after writing a public letter expressing their lack of confidence in the Chair, David Partridge, last April.

It is understood the volunteer Trustee, who was appointed in October 22, has cited the Chair’s behaviour as the reason for his departure including ‘not dealing with issues at South Street’ (where the Trust manages six Almshouse properties) and being ‘incapable of balancing the interests of the tenants at South Street, with the project at Chancery Lane.’

Chancery House was a former community building that Dantay acquired from Dorset Council and is now in the process of being converted into 8 homes.

One resident at South Street was told that his rent rise was to help fund the Chancery Lane project, despite all the Almshouses being badly in need of a new heating system and damp treatment.

Another said they were ‘very sorry’ the newly appointed Trustee has left:

“He had written us all an introductory letter, only a couple weeks ago, acknowledging there were ‘lots of issues’ at South Street and explaining he would be taking over the management of us and David Partridge would be managing Chancery House.

“We were all pleased to know that, but now it looks like we are back to a Trust/Charity that only has one person at the helm and none of us have confidence in that person.”
