Westham Community Group & Friends of the Marsh are set to hold The King’s Coronation Picnic By The Park on Saturday 6th May 2 till 6pm on the Marsh. The event has been made possible thanks to a £350 grant from Weymouth Town Council and sponsorship of £250 from Weymouth & Portland Lions Club
Westham Community Group Chairman Gill Taylor said: “We are extremely excited to bring our Picnic By The Park event back to The Marsh once again, this time in celebration of the coronation of King Charles the TI. This is the third time we have staged this event and each time it grows with popularity with more o the community supporting.”
The event starts with performances from Let’s dance and Twirl Academy – Baton Twirling & Pom Pom
Troupe and followed by live music from 3pm to 6pm with acoustic sets from Matt Taylor, Paul Paice and Slight Return.
Free entertainment and activities will also be on offer with A1 Weymouth Bouncy Castles, Townsend’s Amusements Merry-go-round as well an array of sports and craft activities
Julie Storey, President of Weymouth & Portland Lions Club expressed her delight that the Lions have been able to support, saying: “Weymouth & Portland Lions Club are delighted to support Westham Community Group & Friends of the Marsh with this tantastic community event and know that our sponsorship of £250 will bring joy to may families who will benefit from the free rides provided at this event.”
ClIr Alex Fuhrman who has been on the event working group added: “We have aimed to keep this event as free and fun as possible as the aim is to bring the community together, we are extremely gratetul to both Wevmouth Town Council and from Weymouth & Portland Lions Club and all our stall holders for their
support in making the event happen.”
Other stalls and activities include event classics such as Dorset Grill Event Catering, Bippity Boppity Booze, face painting and an array of community organisations.
Those attending the event are encouraged to dress in red, white and blue or in their most royal attire, bring bunting and flags and most importantly have fun and enjoy the celebrations
ClIr Ryan Hope, Chairman of Weymouth Town Council Services Committee said: “Weymouth Town Council made the grant pot of £3,500 available to support groups in delivering events over the coronation weekend that would bring the community together and The King’s Coronation Picnic By The Park does just that!”
