Protesters to target refugee ship in Falmouth.

Cornwall Resists has called an emergency protest in Falmouth on Wednesday 10th May at 6pm in response to the news that the refugee ship, the “Bibby Stockholm” has arrived in Falmouth to be refitted.

The protest, “No-one is illegal. Prison ships get in the bin”, will stand in solidarity with refugees and show that Cornwall rejects complicity in border violence and racist agendas. Cornwall Resists, a network of radical Cornish groups says this will not happen “on our watch”.

The call to action states:

“People who have fled their homes in search of safety deserve our compassion, dignity and respect. They do not deserve to be scapegoated,
detained by the state, and treated as less than human whilst the rich in parliament profit from the very wars from which people arriving on our shores were displaced”.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Resists stated:

“We showed in Newquay that Cornwall stands in solidarity withrefugees and will do whatever it takes to protect their right to live inthis country free from fascist bigotry. This includes the fascist bigotry perpetrated by this government and the hostile environment it has created for those who are fleeing persecution and war.

“With the Illegal Immigration Bill currently going through parliament, and the government’s plans to lock up even more refugees, Cornwall is determined to say loudly that refugees are welcome here and that we will not stand by while one of our towns is used to enable human
rights abuses against people who are seeking sanctuary. We will not be complicit in border violence and racist agendas.”
