A controversial film about Jeremy Corbyn is, the producer claims, is selling out across Britain.
“Oh Jeremy Corbyn — The Big Lie”, which the story of the rise and fall of the ex-Labour leader, was launched in London earlier this year and since then, despite having no advertising or publicity in the mainstream media, is now being screened in hundreds of venues across the country, according to the film’s producer Norman Thomas.
Mr Thomas said: “And the great thing is that so many of the screenings are sold out within days of being announced. Imagine how many more people we’d have had coming if the film had been even mentioned in the mainstream media.”
Mr Thomas claims the film is “an alternative media phenomenon”.
He said: “Not only is the film being screened in independent cinemas, it is being shown in arts centres, community centres meeting halls, churches, pubs, even art galleries — anywhere people can put chairs and a projector. It’s a demonstration of how desperate people are to see what they believe is the truth about Jeremy Corbyn’s time as leader of the party.”
Narrated by veteran left wing comic Alexei Sayle, and starring film-maker Ken Loach, the documentary sets out to investigate how Corbyn went from almost winning a general election in 2017 to now being not even allowed to stand for his party as an MP.
Mr Thomas said: “Regardless of your politics, this is a gripping and amazing story.”
He believes the film has achieved its success despite being both secretly and blocked by figures within the Labour Party because it is highly critical of Keir Starmer’s role in Corbyn’s shadow cabinet.
Mr Thomas said. “Labour Party members have been threatened with punishment if they watch the film, Starmer-supporting Labour councillors have used their influence to stop the film being shown at many venues and it’s even been banned from being screened at an annual festival for trade unionists.”
Mr Thomas added: “Starmer has gone to extraordinary lengths to try to stop people watching the film because it portrays him acting like a devious ‘establishment spy cop’ when Corbyn was leader.”
The TUC, it’s been reported, banned the film from the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival in Dorset this July because they said they believed “showing this film would not uphold the TUC’s values nor contribute to the safety of staff, stewards and attendees.”
Mr Thomas said: “These were just ludicrous excuses. The real reason is that that the film tells a story that Keir Starmer wants no one to hear. But the more Starmer’s people try to ban it, the more people will want to see it.”
Mr Thomas said: “And despite being deprived of all publicity in the mainstream media, the screenings are going on and on. This demonstrate that the people who supported Jeremy Corbyn haven’t gone away, and now they’re planning a fightback. Starmer thought that by stopping Corbyn standing as a Labour MP he’d killed off Corbynism but the reception for this film shows how wrong he was.”
