Following the far right’s attack on the RNLI yet again, it has brought money pouring into the RNLI coffers, as the vast majority of people outmaneuver these rancid racists.
Ironically, the sustained political attacks on the Royal National Lifeboat Institution appear to have helped generate a powerful public backlash and increased financial support for the charity.
Criticism of the RNLI has intensified in recent times, particularly from sections of the right over its humanitarian work involving migrants crossing the Channel. Right-wing politicians and commentators accused the charity of encouraging crossings, despite the RNLI’s fundamental mission being to save people in danger at sea.
The financial figures tell an interesting story. In 2024, RNLI donations rose by £5.4 million, or 8%, to £71.1 million, compared with £65.7 million in 2023. And now the money is poring in again following the rancid attacks on RNLI staff.
The result is an uncomfortable paradox for the RNLI’s critics: attempts to undermine public support for one of Britain’s most trusted lifesaving institutions may instead have strengthened it.
And now we have a wonderful Christmas idea. Let’s not only raise money for this great British institution but also get the political party most responsible for these vile attacks to pay through the nose.
Let’s unite together for decency and hit these billionaire-funded charlatans where it hurts.
