Weymouth BID took another step forward in the BID process, with Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Management Committee voting unanimously to support the BID.
A report to the Management Committee recommended that the Council agree the BID Business Plan did not conflict with the Councils own policies, that the request to hold a ballot in May 2013 be accepted, and crucially to vote YES at the ballot in support of the BID.
Nigel Reed Chair of Weymouth BID Steering Group said “This is excellent news and I would like to publicly thank the Council for their support both today and in providing the initial funding in February 2012 that enabled the BID to progress to this stage.”
He added “The Council will be the largest contributor to the BID, if the vote is successful, and shows a commitment to support the local economy, this added to the contributions from the local businesses in the BID area will provide annual investment in Weymouth Town of £300,000 totalling £1.5 million, based on the BID business plan, over the next five years.”
The Weymouth BID Steering Group will now step up the YES Campaign and has already organised two further, “Drop in” meetings for Levy Payers on the 14th March and 18th April 2013 at the Wetherspoons William Henry Pub Weymouth between 3.30 – 6 pm and will have a stand at the Best of Dorset Event at Weymouth Pavilion on 24th March.
Barrie Huett Vice Chair of the Steering Group added “These “Drop In” open meetings allow Levy Payers a further opportunity to discuss the BID, the projects, how they will be delivered and provides a further opportunity to highlight any concerns or issues they may have.”
The BID postal ballot will take place between 4th– 31st May 2013
