Members of Christchurch Citizens Association (CCA) have signed an agreement to allow them to undertake refurbishment work on Druitt Hall in Christchurch.
The agreement gives CCA tenancy of the Hall prior to a three-year lease being granted to them from 1 September 2014, as agreed by Christchurch Council’s Resources Committee in June.
The refurbishment work to be undertaken by CCA will include redecoration and repairs to both interior and exterior of the building, resiting of the kitchen and store cupboards, refurbishment of the toilets and creation of a disabled toilet and improvements to the disabled access.
Nigel Cook from CCA said: “We owe a debt of thanks to everyone who has made this possible and look forward to making the Hall a successful community facility.”
Chairman of Christchurch Council’s Resources Committee, Cllr Trevor Watts, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for the community working in partnership with the council. I wish the CCA all the best.”
Cllr Ray Nottage, Leader of Christchurch Council, added: “This is a momentous occasion. I am delighted to see that a responsible organisation is taking Druitt Hall forward to the next phase.”
