From wildflower planting to pebble painting, these are just some of the free activities at Weymouth Town Council’s community event in Westham during the Easter school holidays.
The nature-themed event takes place on Thursday 21st April from 11am to 2pm at the Children’s Community Woodland on Links Road. It’s the location where more than 600 native trees were planted for every child that started school in Weymouth for the first time during the pandemic.
As well as the fun activities for children and families to enjoy, visitors will also be able to learn more about the council’s work on improving biodiversity across parks and open spaces. This includes creating wildlife habitats by planting 1,000 trees over five years, and sowing wildflower areas.
There will also be information available about how the council is tackling climate change since declaring a climate emergency in 2019. Residents and community groups can also find out more details on how to book a litter picking pack.
Cllr Colin Huckle, Mayor of Weymouth, said: “Why not come to our free Easter extravaganza event during the school holidays? There will be wildlife-themed activities to keep children and young people entertained and engaged with nature.
“The community woodland is the perfect setting for the event as the trees that were planted here as part of a national campaign will help mitigate against climate change, provide food and shelter for wildlife and create a natural area for the community to enjoy.”
