ANOTHER BUDGET FOR THE RICH

The People’s Assembly are set to mobilise tens of thousands for a major demonstration in London following George Osborne’s Budget for the rich, as his plans included cuts to support for disabled people while giving huge tax breaks to the wealthy.

There was very little good news in the Budget for ordinary people while big business and the wealthy will be laughing all the way to the bank, with further cuts to an already low level of Corporation Tax and a drop in Business Rates.

The Chancellor’s claims that spending on schools and hospitals has increased were also exposed as fantasy as the NHS faces a funding squeeze in the biggest financial crisis in the history of the health service ,while an ideologically driven Tory government runs rampant in its plans to break-up public services.

Local Authorities are also bearing the brunt of the Tory cuts as an out of touch Chancellor promised to axe an extra £3.5 billion from public spending in 2019/20.

People’s Assembly National Secretary Sam Fairbairn slammed Osborne’s Budget saying:

Another budget for the rich from George Osborne that does nothing to address people’s real concerns. When the government decides to dramatically cut disabled people’s benefits yet can afford more tax breaks for corporations and high earners you can see where their priority lies. They’ve had to admit that growth is slower than predicted so when will they admit that austerity has failed?

The Tories are increasingly out of touch with the reality of life for most people. Everytime they say ‘we all in it together’ it’s another slap round the face of millions of people. We’re now seeing the potential for big unrest across the country and it wont be long until this government face a movement for change they can’t control.

This is why we believe that the demonstration for ‘Health, Homes, Jobs and Education’ in London on April 16th will be significant as the anti-austerity movement and opposition to Tory cuts grows and thousands take to the streets.’

The demonstration is supported by a wide range of organisations and individuals including the TUC, Unite, UNISON, NUT, Green Party, Jeremy Corbyn, John McDonnell, Charlotte Church, Jeremy Hardy, Francesca Martinez and more…
