Detectives investigating a sexual assault in Weymouth are releasing a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to as he may have important information about the incident.
At around 12.45am on Friday 21 October 2016, the victim – a local woman aged in her 30s – was walking along The Esplanade when she was approached by a man.
The man said to her that there was another person on the beach that needed help. She accompanied the man past the Pier Bandstand toward Greenhill.
As they approached an alleyway near to the bowling green, the man pushed the victim against a wall and sexually assaulted her.
She managed to push him away and make her way home.
Detective Constable Jacqui Gravenor, of Weymouth CID, said: “Following a number of initial enquiries I am now able to issue a CCTV image of a man I would like to speak to. We believe he may have been in the area at the time of the incident and could hold vital information that might assist with the investigation.
“Anyone who is able to identify the man or witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident should contact police or call Crimestoppers anonymously.
“Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team have stepped up patrols in the area to offer community reassurances.”
