Working in an animal sanctuary would be many people’s dream job, and now for one lucky young person there is a rare opportunity to join an apprenticeship at the Margaret Green Animal Rescue Centre near Bere Regis.
The apprenticeship vacancy has come up at the centre in Winterborne Kingston for a budding enthusiast to help in the main reception area, with a wide range of customer care duties.
Working with Dorset training provider FNTC Training, the vacancy is being advertised for someone keen to earn and learn. Stephen Holdroyd, Business Development Manager at FNTC Training’s Bournemouth centre said, “The vacancy is for an apprentice in customer service. It is a wonderful job opportunity for a school leaver who is passionate about helping the public, dealing with enquiries and generally supporting the sanctuary team. It is not an animal care role, but of course the candidate is probably going to be a real animal lover and will understand the ethos of the sanctuary and animal welfare.”
As an apprentice the candidate will be supported by a tutor from FNTC Training who will assist with assignments and working towards a recognised customer service qualification which is easily transferable for other future job opportunities.
FNTC Training is also delivering customer service training to existing staff members at Margaret Green Animal Sanctuary at Lincoln Farm.
Helen Chittock, manager at the Lincoln Farm centre added, “Every year Margaret Green Animal Rescue cares for over 1,200 animals, many of which have been abandoned, unwanted and ill treated. We endeavour to rehome wherever possible and as we have no funding, rely on donations and support from the public. Whoever joins us in this apprenticeship role will need to be confident in speaking to all sorts of people, and be happy to learn about the animal adoption procedures, our fundraisers and every aspect of dealing with the people who contact us. We think it will be a very exciting opportunity for a trainee to join our friendly team.”
FNTC Training specialises in apprenticeships in customer service, business administration, healthcare and childcare and currently has around twenty five job vacancies to fill.
Stephen added, “An apprenticeship is a very valuable way of getting paid to learn. We have employers ready and waiting to take on trainees, and the jobs are very varied. School leavers wanting to take the first step of the career ladder could very quickly find themselves in employment if they get in touch. We offer lots ongoing support.”
