Aspect of War – talk at Bournemouth library

Hello Friends,

You may like to know about the talk at the Library next Wednesday.

Many of you will already be aware of these talks, but for those of you who are not, here is some background. With this year being the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One, various activities are being planned to commemorate that event, with a focus on the importance of understanding how conflicts arise, and how we can work for Peace, rather than War.

In Bournemouth, part of our work is to be a series of talks ‘Aspects of War’, which should be a light touch introduction for anyone who is interested in the anniversary, and would like to pick up a little more information. These talks will be given over the coming months, at Bournemouth Library and other venues across the town, by a variety of local historians and researchers. The first talk is by Eileen Barker, who is very well versed in Bournemouth history, having been, for many years, one of the key people responsible for the publication of the Local Study booklets which covered all aspects of Bournemouth history.

Eileen’s talk will look at the way that World War One forced together people from different backgrounds, and in doing so opened the door to changes that no one had foreseen. It will be very interesting, and there will be the opportunity over teas and coffees afterwards to ask Eileen further questions about the subject.

Further information about Bournemouth’s activities to mark this anniversary will be added to these websites throughout the year:
