Barolo Ristorante Raises a Tasty Sum for Cancer Charity

A special charity dinner evening held by Ristorante Barolo has raised an amazing £4,477.77 for Macmillan Caring Locally

Ristorante Barolo, the acclaimed traditional Italian Restaurant in Winton, Bournemouth, put on a special charity dinner in February that raised an amazing £4,477.77 for Macmillan Caring Locally. The sold-out evening featured a delicious set menu with wine, music from the celebrated pianist, Lorenzo Camilleri, and a raffle with a range of brilliant prizes donated by local businesses.  Not only did Barolo donate all their takings from the dinner and wine, even their staff worked for free and contributed their tips!

Sam, the owner of Barolo, said:

“It was a pleasure to put on this charity evening and I’m so proud of the generosity of my staff. They all worked really hard but it was worth it. We and our customers had a truly wonderful time. There was such a happy, fun atmosphere and we are delighted that the evening raised so much money for Macmillan Caring Locally. We know what a superb job they do.’

The funds raised by Barolo will go towards the building of a new facility for Macmillan Caring Locally in the grounds of Christchurch Hospital. The existing Macmillan unit was built in 1974 but referrals to the service have doubled since 2010 which has meant the unit is no longer adequate for the needs of the community. Despite Barolo Ristorante’s generous donation, Macmillan Caring Locally must still raise a further £4million to be able to complete the project.

Neal Williams, Trust Secretary of Macmillan Caring Locally, added:

“We are so appreciative of Sam and his staff for putting on a fantastic evening and raising an incredible sum. The support of local people and businesses like Ristorante Barolo is so vital in ensuring we can provide patients with the care they need. We can’t thank them enough!”

Macmillan Caring Locally offers specialist palliative care for patients with cancer and other life-limiting conditions who live in Dorset and South West Hampshire as well as providing emotional and practical support to their families. For more information about their work visit www.macmillanlocal.org
