A few blisters were soon forgotten when a team of runners who entered the Bournemouth Half Marathon were able to present a cheque for over £1,000 to a local charity.
The runners, representing City Centre Recruitment, selected Harrison’s Trust Fund for their fundraising efforts, and having taken the opportunity to meet Harrison and the Dilling family at their home in Ferndown, the group were determined to do their best and donate to the fund.
Dan Shrimpton, Managing Director at City Centre Recruitment said, “There are so many worthwhile causes and charities, but on this occasion we specifically wanted to do something that was local, and where any sum raised would make a big difference. Harrison’s Dad Jon has explained the costs of buying specialist equipment that helps to make Harrison’s life more comfortable. The family are currently trying to raise enough money for aspecially adapted power wheelchair which he can steer using his head, costing around £10,000. We are proud to be able to contribute towards this.”
Visiting the Dilling family along with their running medals, the team presented a cheque for £1, 154.44.
Jon Dilling commented, “My wife and I have been touched by the way that strangers, as well as family and friends have rallied around to support us in a myriad of ways, including fund raising. Harrison has cerebral palsy and is quadriplegic, and has complex issues. We know that he will require a lot of specialist support and equipment right through his life, so donations such as this from City Centre Recruitment are invaluable.”
Stuart Jones who set up the fundraising page for Harrison added, “In the end just four of us ran, as we had problems with one of our team entries and our colleague couldn’t enter the race. Considering we are mainly desk bound in our day jobs in recruitment, our fitness levels were pretty good. We topped our £1k target and feel privileged to have met Harrison.”
