Black Lives – our NHS heroes

The COVID-19 crisis reveals much about injustice in our society. Among all the statistics, one is especially striking …
… although just 14 per cent of people in the UK are of Black and Ethnic Minority heritage, and 20 per cent of NHS employees are Black and Ethnic Minority staff, 65 per cent of all deaths of NHS staff are Black and Ethnic Minority workers, many on the front line in high-risk areas.

After being “clapped” by the government, NHS staff have now been left out of a pay rise for some public sector workers. They are furious at this insult – and have organised protests across the UK this coming weekend. Black and Ethnic Minority workers are some of the lowest paid in the NHS. The fight against low pay is part of the fight against institutionalised racism.

Stand Up to Racism Dorset will be supporting the protests and calling for special attention to the sacrifices of Black and Ethnic Minority NHS staff. Please attend one of the Dorset protests: we will Take The Knee in solidarity with all victims of racism.
