Officers searching for teenage diver Oscar Montgomery, who went missing off the coast of Portland, are sad to confirm that a body has been found.

Oscar, aged 17, had gone diving in the area of Church Ope Cove on Wednesday 27 May 2020 and was last believed to have been seen at around 5pm that day.

Shortly after 8am on Wednesday 17 June 2020 Dorset Police received a report that what was believed to be a body had been seen in the water off the coast of Portland.

With assistance from the coastguard and the RNLI, the body was recovered. While it is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of Oscar and his family has been informed. They are being supported by officers.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Chief Inspector Neil Wood, of Dorset Police, said: “Our thoughts are with Oscar’s family and loved ones at what must be a tremendously difficult time for them and we will support them in any way we can.

“I would like to thank all those who shared our appeal and everyone involved in the search efforts.”
