Body of missing Portlander found

Officers searching for missing Portland man Peter Spurgin have very sadly found a body.

Dorset Police received a report at 9.50am on Thursday 4 August 2022 raising concern for the welfare of the 53-year who has last been seen at his address on Saturday 30 July 2022.

Following enquiries and a search of the area, the body of a man was found on the evening of Sunday 7 August 2022 in an area of woodland off Grove Road.

While formal identification has not yet taken place, the body is believed to be that of Peter Spurgin and his family has been informed.

The death is not being treated as suspicious. HM Coroner has been notified.
