Bournemouth Council’s award winning adoption team are to feature again in the ITV series Wanted: A Family of My Own,this coming Thursday (15th May) at 9pm.

The series has featured the stories of children who need permanent homes and the adopters willing to give those children a loving home. The series is presented by radio and TV personality Nicky Campbell, who is an adoptee himself.

The final episode in the series will feature the efforts of Bournemouth Adoption Social Worker, Jess and her colleagues in finding a ‘forever family’ for baby Tom.

Tom was born with a genetic disorder, which has had a significant impact on his general health and in particular his hearing. The episode demonstrates the difficulties in finding families for children with additional needs.

Councillor Nicola Greene, Deputy Leader and portfolio holder for Children’s Services, said:

“Children with additional needs like Tom, and other children such as sibling groups, older children and children from different ethnicities all share one thing in common; they need a secure and loving home. We hope this series has raised awareness of what is involved in adopting a child and also dispel the myths around adoption.

“The series has showcased the dedication and determination of our social work staff in finding positive outcomes for the many children who need adoptive homes.”

Bournemouth Council’s adoption service was previously featured in the first episode of the series, where the cameras followed the story of Dan & Ania’s quest to become adopters, from the assessment process through to becoming a family with baby ‘James’.
