Members of the public are being urged by the Council to remain vigilant after a number of road side gully drain cover thefts in the borough.

The Council is in the process of replacing the covers with more secure features butis asking motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to be careful and to report any suspicious activity.

At present the Queens Park, Littledown ,and Strouden Park areas have had a number of gully drain covers taken in recent days.

Councillor Michael Filer, Cabinet member for Cleansing and Waste, said: “The stealing of these drain covers is not only anti-social but is also extremely dangerous and puts the safety of residents at risk, so we encourage people to get in touch if they spot anything suspicious or if they are offered any scrap metal from these drains. In the meantime our Street Services team have been securing the affected areas and replacing the covers and frames as quickly as possible.”

To report any removed gully drain covers or anything suspicious please contact Bournemouth Borough Council on 01202 451451 or Dorset Police Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
