An open air Civic Service to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, and to remember all those who lost their lives, will take place on Monday 4 August.
The service will begin at 10.45am at The Waterfront events space, Pier Approach, and will be led by Reverend Dr Ian Terry, Bournemouth Town Centre Rector, with The Mayor of Bournemouth Councillor Chris Mayne and the Mayor’s Chaplain, Councillor Roger Marley.
During the service, Poet Laureate James Manlow will recite a poem specially written for the occasion.
The Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Chris Mayne, said: “This Civic Service, along with other events and activities that we are hosting throughout the year, provides an opportunity for people of all ages to come together and remember those who sacrificed their lives in the First World War. I am sure residents in Bournemouth will want to join us in marking this occasion.”
Veteran organisations from the Bournemouth area and members of the public are invited to join in the commemoration.
The Council would also like to extend an invitation to any descendants of Bournemouth Victoria Cross holders and would ask them to contact Amanda Fry, Senior Member Support & Civic Officer at the Town Hall Bournemouth on 01202 454935 or email[email protected].
