The Gallery Upstairs at Upton Country Park is putting out a call to all artists within a 15 mile radius of Poole.

This year’s OPEN exhibition will have the title INSIDE DORSET and we are inviting all local artists to submit work concerning the varied life and landscape of this colourful county, either in contemporary terms or reflecting the rich history and identity of the region.

Submission Day is Wednesday 29th November, followed by the exhibition itself which will be held at The Gallery Upstairs at Upton Country Park running from 2nd December to Christmas 2017.

The project is open to any creative artist living within a 15 mile radius of Poole and art in any medium is welcome: painting, drawing, sculpture, handcrafted prints, digital and textile art.

A spokesman for the organisers explained:  “Asking artists to turn away from the coastline and explore the wonderful hinterland of Dorset is just one interpretation of ‘Inside Dorset’. Artists see our county in different ways and from different angles:  from the history embedded in the landscape to the hubbub of our multi-cultural holiday towns. History, landscape, people, industry, culture, transport… all potential topics for celebrating this fascinating county.”

The selection panel comprises Jeremy Gardiner (British contemporary painter); Penny Crichton-Seager (artist/illustrator/teacher); Kathy Dinmore (Secretary Friends of Upton Country Park). Prize money will be awarded.

The exhibition is organised by Gallery managers, Poole and East Dorset Art Society.  For more information, rules and an entry form, visit www.thegalleryupstairs.org.uk ; email [email protected]  or telephone  07906759620.
