The government has introduced:
- From next Monday, any gathering of more than six people in England will be illegal, unless it meets one of a limited list of exemptions
- This applies to gatherings both indoors and outdoors
- The new rule does not apply to households or bubbles of more than six, or gatherings for work or education
- Weddings, funerals, and organised team sports carried out in a COVID-secure way are also exempt
- People will at first be fined £100, but this will double on each further repeat offence up to £3,200
So now a gathering of more than 6 people inside and outside is deemed unsafe.
Yet people can gather to work in large groups.
The same group can go to the pub together after work but can’t hang out in a park.
It’s still safe to go on public transport.
Safe to go into shops.
Safe for the kids to go to school.
Safe to eat out at restaurants.
This is so clearly a response to putting down any protest gatherings like the one we’ve just seen from the Extinction Rebellion.
Remember when everyone was packing the beaches full in the summer. All ignoring social distancing etc.
Remember how the government rapidly swept in and put into law powers for the police to disperse those crowds because of how dangerous it was? No, neither do I. However, when a group of billionaires have their papers delayed for a day we suddenly have a new law that makes no logical sense in relation to anything else we are allowed to still do.
Please can someone, no matter their political position, please explain what the government are up to and why so many just accept it?
