Carer Support Dorset and Wiltshire to Close Amid Funding Crisis

Carer Support Wiltshire and Carer Support Dorset have announced they will close all operations at the end of March, bringing an end to decades of support for unpaid carers across the two counties.

In a statement issued on Monday, 2 February 2026, the charity’s Board of Trustees said the decision followed “careful and thorough consideration” and was driven by ongoing and significant funding challenges. Despite exploring all viable options to secure the organisation’s future, trustees concluded that the charity could no longer operate in a financially sustainable way.

The announcement marks a major blow for unpaid carers in Wiltshire and Dorset, many of whom rely on specialist advice, emotional support and advocacy to cope with the pressures of caring for family members or friends. The trustees acknowledged that the news would be distressing, not only for carers and those they care for, but also for staff, volunteers, partners and supporters connected to the organisation.

Carer Support Wiltshire and Dorset said the coming months would be focused on closing services in a “planned and thoughtful way”. The charity aims to manage the process responsibly, with care for those affected, and will work with partner organisations where possible to help support carers during the transition. Trustees also committed to clear and timely communication throughout the closure period.

In the statement, the board expressed gratitude to everyone who has supported the charity over the years. Thanks were extended to unpaid carers who shared their experiences, to staff and volunteers for their dedication and compassion, and to funders and partner organisations who believed in the charity’s work.

“It has been a privilege to support unpaid carers across Wiltshire and Dorset,” the statement said, adding that the organisation was proud of the positive difference it had made to individuals, families and communities.

The statement was signed by Nigel Sully, Chair of Trustees, who reiterated the charity’s appreciation for the support it has received and the impact of its work. Questions or requests for further information can be directed to [email protected], which will remain monitored during the closure period.

All services provided by Carer Support Wiltshire and Carer Support Dorset are expected to end on 31 March 2026.
