Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) is encouraging children to spend some time outside to experience and learn about wildlife this May half term.

Kick-off the week with the Wild Photography Fun day at the Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre on Monday 26th May from 11am – 2pm.   We are offering the chance for both adults and children to learn about photography from an expert, and then capture some of the views and wildlife at Chesil Beach to put your new skills into practice.  Back at the centre, there is a big screen to put your photos on, for some guidance and advice from our expert. Adults £5, children £3.  Phone 01305 206191 to book your place.

This half term, the Kingcombe Centre is hosting an Art Weeks exhibition of 12 artists, and we have lots of events for families to come along to.  On Tuesday 27th May from 10am – 12pm the Bugs and Beasties event will invite children to delve into the world of minibeasts, by shaking bushes, lifting logs and sweeping meadows in search for Kingcombe’s finest specimens!  Booking is essential on 01300 321409.  There will also be ongoing events including art and crafts, walks, and biscuit decorating.  For more information visit www.kingcombe.org.uk/dorset_art_weeks.

On Tuesday 27th May and Thursday 29th May, older children (12+ year olds only) who fancy getting their feet wet, can try the guided clear-bottomed Kayak safari at The Purbeck Marine wildlife reserve in Kimmeridge Bay and experience marine wildlife like never before!  Goggle viewers help you get up and close and personal with marine wildlife.  £25 per person, booking essential on 01929 481044.

Lorton Meadows Conservation Centre is holding a whole host of family activities, including the Lorton Meadows Family Festival on Saturday 31st May from 11am – 3pm.  Wildlife activities and crafts will be on offer, such as making a puppet to take home, the ‘best nest’ competition, and games such as fishing for ducks. Families can also explore the reserve on the wildlife trail.  Refreshments and cakes will be available, or bring a picnic and sit in our picnic area to enjoy the reserve.  Individual activities cost between 50p-£1.  For more information, phone 01305 816546.
