Christchurch man charged following robbery incidents

A man has been charged and is due to appear in court in connection with reported robberies and an attempted robbery in Bournemouth and Christchurch.

The first incident occurred at around 12pm on Tuesday 28 May 2024. It is alleged that a man made threats and stole a bike from a 13-year-old boy outside Lidl in Bailey Drive in Christchurch, before riding away on it.

The second incident happened at around 7.30pm on Thursday 30 May 2024 when it was reported that a 12-year-old boy was in Whitehayes Road in Burton when a man approached and grabbed him by his upper clothing, before attempting to steal his bike. The victim alerted his father, who was nearby, and the suspect made off from the scene.

At around 11.15am on Friday 14 June 2024, a man allegedly entered Uppercut Barbers in Christchurch Road in Bournemouth and demanded money. During the incident, it is reported that a member of staff was bitten on the arm and they attended hospital for treatment.

A further incident occurred on the same day at around 9.15pm in Iford Stores in Christchurch Road. It is reported that a man entered the shop and demanded money while in possession of a knife.

Following enquiries by detectives, a 28-year-old man from Christchurch was arrested and charged with robbery and attempted robbery. He was due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Monday 17 June 2024.

Detective Inspector Darren Moores, of BCP CID, said: “These types of offences can be extremely distressing for victims and we are committed to thoroughly investigating reported robberies to identify those believed to be responsible.”
