Dorset Police’s Neighbourhood Team has reported a wide-ranging programme of enforcement and community activity across Dorchester and surrounding villages, including action against suspected drug dealing, anti-social behaviour, knife carrying and theft.
Officers secured a Closure Order on a flat in Poundbury following reports linking the property to recent anti-social behaviour. Closure Orders can be an important tool in tackling persistent problems associated with particular premises and are intended to prevent further nuisance, disorder or criminal activity.
Elsewhere, officers executed a warrant at an address in Dorchester as part of an investigation into the suspected supply of cocaine. The police did not provide further details about the outcome of the warrant.
Three people were also arrested in connection with separate matters. The arrests included one person for prison recall, another in relation to grievous bodily harm, and a third for failing to appear at court.
Police have also been pursuing enquiries outside Dorset, with officers travelling to Wiltshire as part of investigations into a recent vehicle crime in the Dorchester area.
The neighbourhood team says it is continuing to respond to concerns raised by residents. Officers carried out a joint community walkabout with Magna Housing in Victoria Park, allowing local issues and concerns to be discussed directly.
Foot patrols and enquiries are continuing around the River Walks following recent incidents, while intelligence-led hotspot patrols are being conducted in Dorchester town centre and a number of surrounding villages.
Police are also investigating reports of graffiti in the town centre, with targeted patrols being carried out. Two Community Resolutions were issued following a neighbour dispute involving criminal damage.
A further intervention involved a disruption visit to a person identified by police as a “Knife Carrying Nominal”. The terminology generally refers to an individual known to police in connection with knife-related concerns, although the update does not provide details of any offence arising from the visit.
Businesses in Dorchester and Charlton Down have also received crime-prevention visits following reports of suspicious behaviour and repeat thefts.
The team has additionally carried out a reassurance visit to a victim following an attempted shed break-in in Charminster.
The update highlights the breadth of neighbourhood policing, combining enforcement with visible patrols, crime prevention, engagement with residents and businesses, and follow-up work in areas identified as potential hotspots.
Police say residents should continue to report concerns and provide information that could assist ongoing investigations.
