Community Banking comes to Gillingham Library

Lloyds Bank is launching a new community banking service in Gillingham, offering vital banking support to the community operating from Gillingham Library.

The banking session will start on 19 January and will run on alternate Mondays between 10am and 3:30pm.

A community banker will be available at the library to assist personal and business customers with essential banking services following the closure of the bank’s premises in Gillingham High Street.

This new initiative ensures continued access to banking services for the community, especially for those who may need help transitioning to digital banking or understanding their options.

  • Account balance enquiries
  • Direct debit and standing order support
  • Bill payment enquiries
  • Guidance on alternative banking channels
  • Financial education
  • Online safety support

Cllr Ryan Hope, Dorset Council’s Cabinet Member for Customer, Culture and Community Engagement, said: “I was saddened to learn of the closure of Lloyds Bank in Gillingham, but this new presence in the library is a positive step forward. It’s a great example of partnership working and community collaboration, and we welcome Lloyds Bank’s commitment to supporting our residents in an accessible way.”

This new initiative ensures continued access to banking services for the Gillingham community, especially for those who may need help transitioning to digital banking or understanding their options.

A spokesperson for Lloyds Bank, added:
“We’re committed to supporting our customers even as we adapt to changing banking habits. Partnering with Gillingham Library allows us to remain present in the community and provide face-to-face support where it’s needed most.”

This collaboration between Lloyds Bank and Gillingham Library highlights the power of local partnerships in maintaining essential services and supporting financial wellbeing.
