Community Cycle Ride – Sunday 13 July

On Sunday 13 July Dorchester Transport Action Group are holding a free, fun, family cycle ride from Poundbury to Dorchester.  The aim is to promote active travel and highlight the lack of a decent cycling infrastructure in Dorchester.

Cyclists will set off from the Great Field in Poundbury (starting near Mansell Square) and travel to Dorchester Town centre and include a “parade” down the main shopping centre.

The ride will be marshalled by experienced cyclists and kicked off by the mayor of Dorchester.

Giles Watts, Dorchester Transport Action Group Secretary, said “Please just turn up on the day for this free event. We will be gathering at 12noon and the cycling starts at 1pm with a short ride for younger cyclists around the Great Field. They are also welcome to bring their scooters. There will be some prizes for children who have ‘blinged’ their bikes or scooters”.

The main cycle for adults and older children will then leave the Great Field for their ride which ends back on the Great Field. People are being invited to bring a picnic for afterwards.

Julie-Ann Booker from Dorchester Transport Action Group added, “It’s great that on that afternoon Age UK are also holding their summer fete on the other side of the Great Field. So we are sharing some of the facilities with them and they will have a range of children’s activities and refreshment stalls.  A lively and fun afternoon for everyone”.

Dorchester Transport Action Group is a discussion and campaign group for residents who feel strongly about the need to improve the transport infrastructure for everybody, including people who walk, cycle and ride as well as car, bus and train users, to become involved in acting as agents for change going forward.
