Games, prizes, training and bike servicing will all be on offer at the BCP Seafront Rangers Cycle Awareness Day on Saturday 26 June at the Pier Approach, Bournemouth.

The event is aimed at promoting good cycling, skating and scooting etiquette and to raise awareness of the annual summer cycling restrictions on the promenade, which begin on 1st July and run until 31st August.  There will be much of interest for the cycling, skating and scooter enthusiast with information on the seafront promenade no-cycling zone and alternative routes that can be taken, as well as some educational games with prizes donated by Beryl.

A range of local agencies and cycling/scooter service providers will be brought together for the event.  In attendance will be Dorset Police and BCP Seafront Rangers who will be providing information about the summer restrictions, as well as offering to stamp and register private bikes on BikeRegister, the national bicycle marking and registration scheme, which helps to protect cyclists against bike theft.

Councillor Mike Greene, BCP Council’s portfolio holder for Transport and Sustainability said: “This summer is going be busier than ever and we want people to both enjoy our seafront and to cycle, skate and scoot safely around our beautiful towns.  By offering an educational approach with this event, we can inform about the summer promenade restrictions and provide details of alternative routes for cyclists, skaters and e-scooterists.  This will hopefully ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment while reducing the amount of infringements.”

As well as the local public agency representation, there will also be local cycle companies in attendance. Bournemouth’s Front Bike Hire will be offering bike servicing and safety checks at the event along with general cycling information for the area.

Another attraction will be demonstrations, games with prizes and training sessions on e-scooter skills from cycle and e-Scooter hire provider, Beryl.

Phil Ellis from Beryl said: “’We’re delighted to be taking part in the Cycle, Skating and Scooter awareness day, organised by BCP Council’s Seafront Rangers Team. We’re anticipating our bikes and e-scooters to be in high demand this summer, as people continue to enjoy their convenience, flexibility, and wider environmental benefits.

‘’This event is a fantastic opportunity for people to meet the local Beryl team and learn more about the extensive measures we have in place to keep both riders and pedestrians safe.’’

The event will be taking place at Bournemouth Pier Approach and will be kicking off at 10am.  Why not come down and have a chat.
