Dalla

Dalla are the internationally acclaimed leading lights of Cornish traditional music who in 2013, released their 5th album ‘K5’. Their recordings have garnered high praise globally, and along with their moving and dazzling live performances, convey the sheer joy they take in Cornwall’s indigenous music and song.

The members of Dalla are four of the foremost proponents of traditional Cornish music today. They have been on a journey from the earliest sparks of the revival in Cornish Traditional Music and have an unparalleled grounding in the traditions of Cornwall. The band brings together the multi-talentedNeil Davey on bouzouki, fiddle and mandolin, the expressive clarinet and magic voice ofHilary Coleman, who sings in Cornish and English, solid percussion and weaving vocal harmonies of Bec Applebee (a familiar face on the Artsreach circuit) and the driving rhythm ofJen Dyer’s viola.

Following their latest release, Dalla are currently touring a proud mix of strong original but trad-inspired compositions and colourful explorations of purely traditional Cornish songs and tunes. These concertscapture Dalla’s sheer vitality and enthusiasm andfeature soulful ballads, beautiful harmony singing, and jaw-dropping instrumentals. They also unashamedly absorb musical influences from beyond Cornwall with a definite middle-eastern ambience and mix of township jive and klezmer. Dalla will be live in Dorset for one special concert this spring through Artsreach, the county’s rural touring scheme and they invite you to share in the mischievous delight they take in playing with their tradition, and in their fascination with the world that lies behind the pieces.
