“Dealing with abuse requires a holistic approach”: Bournemouth charity “Acts Fast” Speaks out

Acts Fast feel that dealing with each aspect of the crime is important.

“Even though child abuse is such an emotive topic that leaves trauma and devastation in its wake, we as a charity believe that a pragmatic and holistic approach will be the most effective way of dealing with the issue” Says Amanda Gulliver, Service Director and one of the founding members of Acts Fast. “Whilst our charity supports the non-abusive parent or carer of a child that has disclosed sexual abuse, we understand that in order to reduce the likelihood of re-offending, some work with the perpetrator may be required”.

Acts Fast evolved from a group of individuals who provided a volunteer group support service.  Realising a significant gap concerning easily available support and information for parents of children who have been abused, they set up a charity to provide this service.

“Whilst working with offenders is not a service that Acts Fast offer, hopefully with other charities and support such as that given to Circles South West for this type of work, the chances of a sex offender or paedophile re-offending will be reduced”.
