Debbie Simpson is New Chief Constable

The Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhilland a selection panel have selected Debbie Simpson as the next Chief Constable of Dorset Police.

Debbie Simpson is currently Acting Chief Constable with the force.

Her selection will now be considered at a Confirmation Hearing by the  Police and Crime Panel on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at County Hall, Dorchester.

Speaking after the announcement Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill said: “I am delighted to propose Debbie Simpson as the next Chief Constable of Dorset”.

“This was a unanimous decision by the Panel. There was a strong range of candidates and the panel had a difficult job. I would like to thank all the candidates for their interest”.   

Debbie Simpson was chosen following two days of intensive selection which involved formal interviews and rigorous tests. During the procedure the candidates were also questioned by representatives of several partner agencies and staff associations. The following were represented: The Police Federation, Unison, The Superintendents Association, Dorset Probation Trust, Dorset Fire and Rescue, Dorset Community Safety Partnership and Neighbourhood Watch.

The appointments panel was made up of Martyn Underhill, Police and Crime Commissioner (Chair); Geoff Pears, Independent Member of the Selection Panel; Colin Weston JP, Chairman of the Joint Independent Audit Committee; Debbie Ward, Chief Executive, Dorset County Council; Steve Mote, Victim Support. In addition, three people were in attendance: Martin Goscomb, Chief Executive providing administrative support; Paul West (former Chief Constable) as the Professional Policing Adviser to the Selection Panel; Cllr John Adams, Vice-Chairman of the Dorset Police and Crime Panel.
