So…went to get a doctors appointment at my NHS GP today (Spitalfields Practice). Earliest appointment is the end of June. However there is a touch screen panel in the corner of the room which allows me to see a GP today, immediately, as long as I pay £39 for a 15 minute slot. (£154 per hour) Just to qualify, this is not to see an NHS doctor….the company just rents a room from the surgery and I can empathise that the surgery is probably cash starved. This is however indicative that resources exist in societal aggregate, which could enable far better coverage for all.
Just do yourselves a favour UK. Do not vote Conservative at the next general election. Even if you yourself are financially able to pay for private treatment over the short term, someone you know and love will at some point be unable to do so; regardless of your social standing and personal wealth. And if you are of middling wealth and good health, one day you will be old, sick and uninsureable. So you’d better hope that you have a half a million tucked away for a dignified and healthy retirement.
