Officers investigating an incident where a man was bitten by a dog in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
At around 2.45pm on Monday 28 June 2021 the victim – a man aged in his 80s – and his wife were walking two dogs near to the children’s play area at The Marsh playing fields off Chickerell Road.
They saw a man coming along the path from Chickerell Road with a dog off a lead. He shouted that it was friendly, but the dog started attacking one of their dogs, seriously injuring it. The victim went to intervene and was bitten to the hand, which resulted in bruising.
The man eventually got the dog off and left the scene back in the direction of Chickerell Road.
He is described as white, about six feet tall, around 40 years old and of athletic build with short dark hair. His dog is described as a Boxer cross or possibly a Staffy-type, but larger than a Staffy and around the size of a Boxer. It was a dark brown brindle colour.
Police Constable Jennie Sykes-Martin, of Dorset Police, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to identify the owner of the dog involved and I would urge anyone with information to please contact us.
“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.”
