Trump’s inexplicable, erratic behaviour has led some US Republicans to wonder if the president is being controlled by others. On Steve Bannon’s “War Room” show, Georgian Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene complained of shadowy figures who were “in the president’s ear.”” Greene implied Trump’s advisers were pushing their own agendas by manipulating the 79-year-old’s brain.
Steve Miller, White House deputy chief of staff has been described as “Trump’s brain.” Greene said that “they can manipulate the president” with shocking ease. Unelected advisers are now moving his administration away from what was promised.
But the question now being asked – is Donald Trump just ignorant and not up to the job, or is he mentally unwell? How else would one take his response that he doesn’t know whether he is required to uphold the American Constitution?
This issue is becoming ever more urgent as the major differences between Trump in his first term and now his second term become increasingly apparent. Even during his first term, his behaviour raised concerns. Steve Bannon talked of invoking the 25th Amendment because of Trump’s mental state.
Ronald Reagan, according to one of his sons, began developing Alzheimer’s during his presidency. With constant help from his wife, Nancy, this was concealed and only announced five years after he left office. (Reagan was 77 when he left office, younger than Trump when he started his current term!)
It should be noted that both Fred Trump Jr., Donald’s father, and Fred Trump Sr., his grandfather, developed Alzheimer’s. An individual with a parent who had the condition is more likely to develop the condition and the risk increases for those with more than one relative with the condition. Alzheimer’s and other dementias tend to run in families.
Unlike Nancy Reagan, Trump’s current wife, Melania, appears disinterested in taking such a major role in Trump’s political career. Instead, he is surrounded by yes women and men, willing to indulge and encourage his delusions. Also seeking to push their own agenda,,,,
Unfortunately, Trump has over three years in the office of President of the United States to go!
