Dorchester community groups can apply for cash

The Dorchester Market Car Boot Fund is now open.

From today (20/2/14) charities and community groups seeking extra cash for projects based in and around Dorchester can apply for a share of the fund.

Grants ranging from £50 – £3000 are available for projects operating within or supporting residents living within a 6.67 mile radius of Dorchester.

All kinds of projects will be considered as long as they aim to make a positive difference to the local community.

Projects supported by the car boot fund in 2013 include:

  • £1200 to Remix West – a performance company which offers professional tuition to young people who are disabled and non disabled to develop creativity, movement and interpersonal skills.
  • £300 to the Dorchester Athletics club to develop training opportunities for volunteers
  • £400 to the Dorset Blind Association to help support their local Home Support Service and Social Club
  • £400 to the Grove Pre-School for the purchase of outdoor equipment
  • £1800 to the Cowden Care Farm project

The fund is generated by car boot sales heldevery Sundayby the Dorchester Markets Joint Panel.

The panel, which is comprised of members ofWest Dorset District Counciland Dorchester Town Council, distributes the fund on an annual basis.

Chair of The Dorchester Markets Joint Panel and West Dorset District Councillor, Mary Penfold said:

“We would like to encourage as many local community groups as possible to apply. We really value the work they do in Dorchester. The grant is easy to apply for and organisations are free to ring if they need any help or support.”

The closing date for applications isWednesday 30 April 2014.

Applicants will be notified by the end of June as to whether they have been awarded a grant.

Successful applicants will be invited to a celebration event in September to share news about their projects.
