Dorchester is to host a “Streets Alive!” event celebrating International Car-Free Day in the Acland Road car park on 22 September 2023. There will be a festival with stalls, music, activities, and demonstrations in the car park in the afternoon from 12.00-17.00. We will be promoting healthy living and eating, as well as sustainable transport and cleaner air.

The event will be open to everyone: old and young, mobile and not so mobile, to experience the centre of Dorchester in a new way. All our local primary and middle schools are participating, with children cycling, scooting and walking to the event. Where they can have fun and enjoy activities (for adults and young people) like skate boarding, bike disco, street football, walking football, aerobics, circus skills, pavement art, trishaw rides and a whole lot more! There will also be an adult bike ride through the streets of Dorchester and the whole event will close with a lively and fun Hokey Cokey for everyone to join in with.

There is still time for local groups, organisations and businesses to book a stall. £30 for commercial organisations. Free for others. Or you can sponsor the event. We are looking for sponsorship for things like reflective jackets to give to school children and money to support the range of activities we are organising as well as some prizes for events. Volunteers to come and help on the day would be appreciated as well.
