Following the ongoing controversy following the illegal parking of scooters during last week’s rally and the many misinformed comments online, Dorset Council has responded.
Lots of comments today on the scooter rally/parking tickets story from last weekend in Weymouth. Here’s our official response…
Jan Britton, Dorset Council’s Executive Director of Economy and Environment, said:
“We were delighted to see the scooter rally bring so many visitors into Weymouth and the positive boost it gave to local businesses and the town.
“Dorset Council was not contacted before the event to discuss parking arrangements or any specific requirements for participants. As a result, no alternative parking arrangements were put in place for visiting riders.
“Our Civil Enforcement Officers acted correctly and issued Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) where scooters were parked in contravention of the relevant parking restrictions.
“However, in recognition of the event’s contribution to Weymouth and as a gesture of goodwill, Dorset Council will refund the PCNs issued to scooters in this location. The PCNs will still need to be paid in the usual way, but riders can contact our parking team to arrange a refund.
“We support events such as the scooter rally and would welcome the opportunity to work more closely with organisers in future to help identify suitable parking arrangements for visiting riders and help avoid similar issues arising at future events.”
