Having launched in June 2012 and having witnessed dorseteye.com becoming one of the most popular independent citizen media sites not only nationally but internationally, the Dorset Eye team are now very proud to announce that they have joined IMPRESS.

IMPRESS are a media regulation body who describe themselves as:

‘…at the vanguard of a new, positive future for news publishers, ensuring quality independent journalism flourishes in a digital age. We help to build understanding and trust between journalists and the public – and provide the public with trusted sources of news.

What they do

  • Award a ‘Trust in Journalism’ mark to publishers that meet our standards for membership.
  • Maintain a progressive Standards Code, and assess any breaches of this code by our members.
  • Provide an arbitration scheme which is free to all parties and protects publishers against the risk of court costs and exemplary damages.
  • Support the development of news publishers, through partnerships and collaboration.

Who they are

Dorset Eye have fought hard to bring a different news culture to the public. One that is not a top down corporate news but one that is a reflection of the public and their experiences and what they consider to be important.

This clip helps to explain what IMPRESS are about and provide some clarity why Dorset Eye has sought to be a member.

By working alongside IMPRESS our focus will be to further expand public access to the news that does not rely upon a prism constructed by huge multinational corporations and their billionaire and multi millionaire owners.

Alongside joining IMPRESS Dorset Eye has also become a founding member of the Independent Media Association (IMA). Formerly known as The Media Fund (of which Dorset Eye was also a founding member) the IMA is an association of non corporate media who focus on bringing the news… that the corporate media either ignores or distorts.

The Independent media have become a voice for millions who want something real and fresh that does not hide from the reality and seeks to expose sometimes uncomfortable facts… to those who seek it.

For a more comprehensive understanding of what the IMA are about this podcast helps provide the detail:

Our utmost hope is that the public will continue to come across to the Independent media and read and support them. We only get one chance of life and to live on billionaire corporate media lies is a shame to the many.
